“The announcement of the extension of local authority loans for care in old age has obvious ramifications for the equity release market as it raises the issue of paying off loans you’re your housing wealth.

Claire Barker, Chairman of ERSA comments on the Budget
7th March 2011: In the Budget speech the Government announced it is planning to simplify the pension system and introduce a £140 per week flat-rate state pension. According to research by ERSA this means that the 47% of people currently saving nothing for their retirement would have just over £7,000 per year to live on.
